Black, Lyle & Habberfield, LLP is a full service law firm that practices big city law with a small town touch. If you wish us to review any claim, we would be pleased to set up an interview, either in our office or your home or hospital room. Regardless of where we meet, you will have an opportunity to speak with the attorney that will handle your case from start to finish. You will also have an opportunity to meet with our investigator and our registered nurses. Hopefully, we can answer any questions that you may have and together arrive at a plan on how to assist you.
Once you retain our firm, we will get to work immediately. We complete most of our investigations within a matter of days. We will collect all of your medical records and ensure, where possible, that all of your medical bills are being pid and that you are receiving compensation for your lost wages (in automobile accidents or injuries that occur during work). Often, the biggest delay is in obtaining medical records and specific letters from your treating physicians describing your injuries and prognosis. Once we receive all of the necessary medical records, they are then submitted to the various insurance companies for their review. It is our goal, that within 90 days of our initial meeting with you that we can accurately predict how your case will be resolved. Obviously, it can vary depending on the extent of your injuries or any difficulties encountered during our investigation.
Perhaps the most difficult questions that we are asked are how long it will take to resolve your case and how much money will you eventually get, if any. Unlike the horror stories that you may have heard of 5 or 10 year delays to resolve a case, this is not the norm in our practice. It has been our experience that the more aggressively we pursue our cases, the better the outcome and the greater potential for a maximum settlement. Understand though that each case is very different. A simple car crash can often be resolved in a matter of months. A complicated product liability action may take a couple of years.
It has been our experience that approximately 90% of our cases settle without the necessity of going to court. Although a certain percentage of our cases have to be put in suit to push the settlement process, few cases require a full trial. Again, it is our goal to obtain as large a recovery as possible, as quickly as possible and with as few costs as possible.
Unlike other firms, one attorney will usually handle your case from start to finish. Although all of the attorneys constantly consult with each other on each case and are available to speak with you, you will always know which attorney is handling your case and you will not “get lost in the shuffle.” After retaining our firm you will be provided with the names of all staff working on your case. We set each case up under the team approach, with 1 investigator assigned, 1 registered nurse, 1 attorney and 1 legal assistant. All are available to speak with you at any time. We will promptly return any calls and answer any questions that might arise. We are here to help.
