Information For Clients

Black, Lyle & Habberfield, LLP, is a full-service law firm that practices big-city law with a small-town touch. If you wish us to review any claim, we would be pleased to set up an interview, either in our office or your home or hospital room. Regardless of where we meet, you will have an opportunity to speak with the attorney who will work with you on your case from beginning to end. You will also have an opportunity to meet with our investigator and our registered nurses. Hopefully, we can answer any questions that you may have and, together, arrive at a plan on how to assist you.

Once you retain our firm, we will get to work immediately. We complete most of our investigations within a matter of days. We will collect all your medical records and ensure, when possible, that all your medical bills are being paid and that you are receiving compensation for your lost wages (in automobile accidents or injuries that occur during work). Often, the biggest delay is in obtaining medical records and specific letters from your treating physicians describing your injuries and prognosis. Once we receive all the necessary medical records, they are then submitted to the various insurance companies for their review. It is our goal that, within 90 days of our initial meeting with you, we can accurately predict how your case will be resolved. Obviously, it can vary depending on the extent of your injuries or any difficulties encountered during our investigation.

How Long Will It Take To Reach A Resolution?

Perhaps the most difficult questions we are asked revolve around how long it will take to resolve the cases and how much money clients will eventually get, if any. Unlike the horror stories that you may have heard about it taking five or 10 years to resolve a case, this is not the norm in our practice.

The stronger our advocacy for our clients, the better is our chance of achieving a favorable outcome, including a fair and just settlement. Granted, every case varies depending on its circumstances. Car accident cases may last a few months, while a defective product liability suit may last years.

It has been our experience that approximately 90% of our cases settle without the necessity of going to court. Although a certain percentage of our cases have to be put in suit to push the settlement process, few cases require a full trial. Again, it is our goal to obtain as large a recovery as possible as quickly as possible and with as few costs as possible.

We Dedicate One Attorney To Handle Your Case From Start To Finish

Unlike other firms, one attorney will usually handle your case from start to finish. Although all our attorneys contribute knowledge to your case, you will always work one-on-one with one lawyer in particular so that you do not feel lost in the shuffle of the legal process. If you have questions, comments or concerns, you can call us and expect a prompt reply. We want to help you.
